The article neglects to mention that birth control pills also greatly reduce the risk of ovarian cancer, which is a very deadly cancer because it is usually only found at an advanced stage.
However, as a medical writer who has written a book about pharmaceuticals (which does include spironolactone), I'd be quite hesitant to use spironolactone for acne. On the other hand, severe acne really ruins the lives of some people, to the point that they consider suicide, so in that case it's certainly worth even possibly increased cancer risk.
